Rare Shakespeare donated

Nov 18

Some wonderful, generous patron of the Brentwood branch of the Springfield-Greene County Library District donated two rare books written by Shakespeare over 235 years ago! The two donated books, “Poems Written by Shakespear” (the ‘e’ was left off on the book) and the “Works of Shakespeare,” were in great condition and are worth a pretty penny. But instead of cashing in, the library decided to share the luck and donate them to Missouri State University where they will be preserved and cared for all to enjoy.

This was quite a donation indeed! I wonder if it was on purpose or perhaps old family property donated after a family passing? Maybe it was completely by accident? Who knows!

Parting is such sweet sorrow… [Romeo And Juliet Act 2, scene 2, 176–185]

I commend both the donor and the library for passing it along to the University where it will undoubtedly find a good home, with lots of public and private use, that must have been difficult.
